Liverpool could have a deal for Timo Werner wrapped up before the summer transfer window, according to Ian McGarry.

The German is expected to leave RB Leipzig at the end of the season, following four seasons at the club.

It has been reported that Liverpool are Werner’s ‘preferred goal’ this summer, despite interest from Bayern Munich and Chelsea.

Speaking on The Transfer Window Podcast, transfer expert McGarry made a bold prediction about the Reds’ quest to sign the 23-year-old:

Liverpool are his preferred destination and indeed Liverpool are in the box-seat to sign him.

But that would certainly be in the summer window to be completed. It’s not ruling out that a fee might be agreed between now and then for the player.

However, there will be no transfer of Werner until the summer.

In my opinion, Werner would be an outstanding signing by Liverpool.

The £67.5 million-rated attacker has everything in his armoury to be a huge success at Anfield, from his pedigree in front of goal to his work-rate and versatility.

Werner has scored 86 goals in just 140 appearances for Leipzig, as well as 11 in 29 caps for Germany.

Being able to fit him into a side already containing Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino could be tricky, but there is a way around it.

Not only would the German add a huge amount of depth to the squad, but Jurgen Klopp could use the quartet in a 4-2-3-1 formation at times.

It would mean Werner leading the line and Firmino dropping into a No.10 role, albeit leaving midfield places even more exclusive.
