Date and time for Liverpool’s FA Cup replay with Shrewsbury confirmed

Liverpool will face Shrewsbury Town in their FA Cup fourth round replay on Tuesday, February 4th, the club have confirmed.

The Reds could only draw 2-2 away to their League One opponents on Sunday, despite leading 2-0 at New Meadow.

Jurgen Klopp’s men will now have to face Shrewsbury again, amid much controversy surrounding the manager’s decision to miss the game, along with his senior players.

Chelsea await in the fifth round, as Liverpool look to win the FA Cup for the first time since 2006.

The Reds are still yet to triumph in the competition since the new Wembley opened in 2007, losing to Chelsea in the final back in 2012.

There had been confusion surrounding when exactly the replay would take place, but I don’t think the confirmed date is any great surprise.

It falls right in the middle of Liverpool’s winter break, as expected, and I don’t expect Klopp to change his stance in the slightest.

While some may feel the German is disrespecting the competition, the FA knew all about the winter break before finding a date for the rematch.

I believe Klopp is making a point about a wider issue of too much football and a lack of organisation – it is a shame that Shrewsbury have been robbed of a great occasion, but I don’t fault the Liverpool boss one bit.

He will have planned weeks ahead, in terms of starting lineups in and around the break, and he won’t bow down to the FA, instead seemingly punishing them.
