Liverpool marched into the fifth round of the FA Cup after their U23’s defeated Shrewsbury Town 1-0 in the fourth round replay at Anfield.
A Ro-Shaun Williams’ own goal was enough to settle the tie and cap off another magical night on the red side of Merseyside.
Neil Critchley’s boys began the game well and had a couple of efforts on goal when Curtis Jones’ free-kick was caught by keeper Max O’Leary and Neco Williams’ low drive just evaded the far post.
At the start of the second half, the latter had a golden opportunity to put the Reds ahead, but his effort was well saved by the Shrewsbury keeper.
The away side then put the ball into the net on the hour mark, however, VAR ruled the goal out as one of the Salop players was offside in the build-up.
Liverpool eventually took the lead in the 75th minute. A cross-field ball from Williams required the other Williams to clear the danger anywhere he wanted. Instead, he tried to head it back to the keeper and made a mess of it to score an own goal.
Thereafter, the young Reds held onto their lead remarkably well in the last 15 minutes and deserved the win on the balance.
Here’s how we rated the Reds after the game:
