Virgil van Dijk is the best defender in the world, according to Brighton midfielder Davy Propper.
The Dutchman has impressed yet again for Liverpool this season, playing every single minute of Premier League action this season.
Speaking to White and Sawyer on talkSPORT on Thursday morning (10am-1pm – 6/2/2020), Propper hailed his international colleague and when asked if he was the best defender on the planet, he said:
Yep probably, yeah. I’m very happy for him and for the national team.

In my opinion, Van Dijk should win the PFA Player of the Year award for a second year in a row.
The only reason his brilliance hasn’t been talked up more is because his world-class level has become the norm, which I believe is unfair. A normal performance for him is better than anyone else in the league, but it now doesn’t receive the same column inches.
Some are of the opinion that Jordan Henderson should win the award, but as magnificent as he has been for the last two or three months, he suffered a dip at the start of the season. Through September and October, his WhoScored match ratings dipped between 6.58 and as low as 6.15.
Van Dijk has been consistently immaculate in the league from the 4-1 win over Norwich City in August onwards, enjoying an 88.7 per cent pass completion rate, making 4.8 clearances per game and scoring four goals – the same as he managed in the whole of 2018/19.
