Liverpool are the front-runners to sign Todd Cantwell this summer, according The Athletic‘s David Ornstein.

The Norwich City youngster has impressed this season, despite the Canaries’ struggles, scoring six goals and registering two assists in the Premier League.

The Reds see Cantwell as a viable option, leaping ahead of Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham in the race to sign the 21-year-old.

The midfielder is valued at £30 million by Norwich, who could accept a fee as they threaten to return to the Championship next season.

I have been hugely impressed with Cantwell this season, not least when he faced Liverpool on both occasions. The silky youngster stood out on the opening night of the season, even though his side lost 4-1 at Anfield, with his quality on the ball and work ethic both noticeable.

He is averaging 1.1 key passes per game in the league this season – only Andy Robertson (1.4), Roberto Firmino (1.5), Sadio Mane (1.7), Mohamed Salah (1.9) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (2.6) have fared better for Liverpool in 2019/20.

With Adam Lallana expected to leave the Reds, I see Cantwell as an ideal replacement, potentially coming in as a squad player capable of opening up defences and providing good energy off the bench. With Lallana managing just 0.3 key passes per game this season, swapping him for a younger alternative could be a great long-term move by the club.
