Pearce identifies Cresswell as possible Liverpool target should West Ham suffer relegation

West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell could be a good addition at Liverpool this summer, according to The Athletic’s James Pearce.

The left-back faced the Reds on Monday night, as Jurgen Klopp’s men won 3-2 at Anfield.

David Moyes’ side face the real threat of relegation this season, with key players more than likely to leave the London Stadium if they go down to the Championship.

Speaking in a Q&A with The Athletic on Monday, Pearce responded to a question asking who Liverpool may want to sign from West Ham, should the Hammers suffer relegation.

There aren’t many people I’d have. Maybe Cresswell as back up to Robertson.

I think Cresswell ticks a lot of the boxes when it comes to finding a deputy to Andy Robertson at left-back – a squad addition that I feel is needed this summer.

At 30, he is now a hugely experienced Premier League player and I don’t think he’d expect to start regularly for a team of Liverpool’s stature.

Robertson is so key that he will feature the majority of the time, but he could do with a safe pair of hands to come in for him at times.

Cresswell has scored three goals this season, outlining his attacking quality, also averaging 1.7 tackles and 1.9 clearances per game.

On top of that, Cresswell is a boyhood Reds supporter, which could add an emotional edge to a move, ensuring that he gives his all.
