Journalist expects Liverpool to make Werner approach soon

The Athletic’s James Pearce has revealed that he expects Liverpool to make an approach for striker Timo Werner in the coming weeks.

The journalist was holding a Q&A session when he was quizzed about the Reds’ stance on Werner, who has been heavily linked with a move to Merseyside recently.

Pearce feels that nothing is concrete yet but Liverpool could begin negotiations soon. He wrote:

Discussions are yet to open but I expect Liverpool to make an approach for Timo Werner in the coming weeks.

I wouldn’t say anything is definite especially after what happened with Fekir a couple of years ago! However, clearly, the player is keen. Klopp really likes him. Also, he’s available at a decent fee.

Werner is one of Europe’s most prolific goalscorers so far this season. The German international has netted 27 times in all competitions and recently praised Liverpool, calling them the best team in the world.

Many Liverpool fans have been expressing their excitement about his potential arrival since he made the remarks and on Friday, Jurgen Klopp responded to his comments, calling them “nice”.

The big question is where could Werner fit in at Liverpool?

With Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, the Reds have arguably the best front line in world football.

However, we believe that due to Firmino’s ability to link play, he could be dropped into an attacking midfield role with Werner leading the line if he arrives.
