As reported on The Mirror, Premier League leaders Liverpool are preparing a new and improved contract for defender Virgil van Dijk.
The centre-back is set to become the world’s highest-paid defender and many Liverpool fans believe that he fully deserves it.
Since Van Dijk made the switch from Southampton to Liverpool in January 2018, the Reds have gone on to win the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and are now on course to win the Premier League.
According to statistics on data website Spotrac, Van Dijk is currently Liverpool’s second-highest earner alongside Roberto Firmino, getting £180,000 a week, but his new deal is set to take him past Mohamed Salah and any other defender on the planet.
There are many reasons why we feel that Van Dijk fully deserves to get the money that Liverpool are ready to pay him.
The Dutchman has added something different to the team’s defensive unit and in simple terms, is irreplaceable.
