Klopp should start Minamino in new formation against Bournemouth

Takumi Minamino admits he must do more to make an impression in a Liverpool shirt, as he continues to adjust to life at Anfield.

The Japanese star made the move from Salzburg during the January transfer window, having impressed against the Reds in the Champions League.

Minamino has made a slow start at Liverpool, however, feeling himself in and still searching for his first goal or assist after six appearances.

Speaking to LiverpoolFC.com, the 25-year-old outlined why he wants to make a bigger impact for his new club:

In the last three months there have been areas which I’m quite happy about. But personally I would love to contribute more to goals and assists – I’m feeling very hungry about that.

I don’t really know how much I still need to learn. But day by day, I’m feeling that I understand his [Klopp’s] philosophies and I’m getting better.

I have to show results. I think this is very important in order to win trust from the teammates and trust from the supporters. I think this is a very important thing that I have to achieve.

I have been in this club for three months and I haven’t played many games and my playing time is not that much – but this is not a good excuse.

I thought Minamino’s performance against Chelsea in midweek was promising, even though Liverpool lost in the FA Cup. He looked silky in possession and looked like he could make things happen, although it ultimately came to nothing.

I would consider giving him another chance against Bournemouth on Saturday, making a change in formation in the process.

Minamino could thrive in a 4-2-3-1 formation, slotting into the No.10 role behind Roberto Firmino, with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane continuing out wide.

A double pivot in midfield could also provide a strong base, with Fabinho and Gini Wijnaldum the best options there.

Switching to a 4-2-3-1 would give Liverpoool more guile in the final third, with the midfield looking a little one-dimensional of late.
