Alisson ruled out of Merseyside derby

Alisson is out of Liverpool’s Merseyside derby clash with Everton next Monday, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.

The Brazilian goalkeeper injured his hip in training last week, ruling him out of the clash with Bournemouth and Atletico Madrid.

It means Adrian is set to start in goal against the latter on Wednesday evening and that also looks set to be the case in the derby, too.

Speaking to reporters, with quotes cited by This Is Anfield, Klopp said Alisson would still be absent at Goodison Park, with no return date set.

Ali will not be ready, that’s for sure. Too early for Monday.

This feels eerily similar to the start of the season, when Alisson got injured in the opening game at home to Norwich, only to end up missing two months of action.

I am worried that the 27-year-old’s layoff could be a long one again, due mainly to Klopp refusing to put a time-frame on his comeback.

Alisson’s absence leaves a huge void in the Liverpool goal, with Adrian an able deputy but still a noticeable level down from his teammate. That showed against Chelsea in the FA Cup last week, when he allowed Willian’s shot to squeeze past him.

The Spaniard will need to be at his best against Atletico, while a clean-sheet away to Everton could go a long towards sealing Premier League glory for the Reds.
