Some Liverpool supporters have been left concerned with the news that Martin Atkinson will referee next week’s Merseyside derby.
Liverpool head to Everton on Monday night, on an evening that could potentially see them crowned Premier League champions.
The only way that can happen is if Manchester City lose at home to Arsenal or Burnley beforehand, while the champions losing both would hand the Reds the title without even playing.
It promises to be a feisty derby regardless of the situation, as the Merseyside rivals meet for the 236th time.
According to the Liverpool Echo’s Paul Gorst, Atkinson will take charge of the fixture, having gained a reputation for being one of the country’s less popular referees.
The last Liverpool game he took charge of was the 1-0 win away to Tottenham in January, which thankfully went by without too much controversy.
Despite that, Atkinson’s appointment has been met with resounding negativity from these Reds fans on Twitter, who are not happy to see him in charge on a potentially huge night for the club.
It's not April 1st already is it ??? ☹️

Atrocious referee. One of the worst in the history of the premiership.
Let me guess, either Kavanagh, Taylor or Mason on Var?
