Timo Werner has opened up about potentially joining Liverpool or Manchester City this summer, still hinting at a move away from RB Leipzig.
The German superstar has been linked with the Reds constantly this season, during a campaign in which he has continued to shine, scoring 27 goals in all competitions.
While nothing is concrete on Werner’s future, it does increasingly look as though he could be at a new club this summer.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the 24-year-old discussed the clubs he could possibly move to, admittedly not completely ruling out the idea of staying at Leipzig.
At this time in professional soccer there are two different variations. The first is to be part of a team like Liverpool or Manchester City. They have a good working team. The teams have also great coaches.
But this is the question: do you want to go to that kind of team, because the situation is already that hard for each member and you want to be a part of it? That’s one point you have to look at.
The other side are teams which need some big changes, because they just won a few big titles, but they are not able to compete on the highest level anymore. For me Manchester United is one of these teams.
So at this point of my career I’m asking myself: do I want to be part of a new team, to build up something new, or do I want to stay at my team and make something great?

Liverpool remain the perfect option for Werner this summer, with their style of play ideal in getting the best out of him. The German striker has pace, end product and his ability to play either out wide or centrally could be a major asset to Jurgen Klopp.
Werner predominantly featured on the left-hand side against Bayer Leverkusen earlier this month, but covered various areas of the pitch in Leipzig’s goalless draw at Bayern Munich back in February.
Werner joining could also give Klopp another world-class option in attack, rather than having to rely on lesser players as back-up options to Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
This doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be a key man, however, with Liverpool shorter on top-class attacking options when compared to City, who can often have two or three elite footballers on the bench.
That is another reason why the Reds are a more sensible proposition, with regular football more likely at Anfield than it is at the Etihad.
