A number of Liverpool fans have been lauding Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s performance against Atletico Madrid, despite the Reds losing on the night.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were dumped out of the Champions League in unjust fashion on Wednesday, following a dramatic evening at Anfield.
After a 1-0 win in normal time, extra-time saw four goals scored, with Atletico eventually prevailing 3-2 on the night and 4-2 on aggregate.
Oxlade-Chamberlain was handed a start in midfield and he played a starring role for Liverpool, providing constant energy and quality, crossing for Gini Wijnaldum to head home the opener.
There were echoes of the 26-year-old’s performances in 2017/18, when he became such a key man before suffering a cruciate ligament injury.
Despite Liverpool bowing out of Europe, ending Klopp’s run of never losing a European knockout tie as Reds manager, it was hard to have too many qualms with the performance.
These Liverpool supporters took to Twitter to single out Oxlade-Chamberlain for special praise, on a night when his reputation soared.
HUGE shoutouts to Oxlade-Chamberlain and Gini Wijnaldum.
One of their best performances in a Liverpool jersey.
Didn't deserve to lose.

Oxlade-Chamberlain repaid Klopp’s faith in abundance tonight. Constant thorn in Atletico’s side; demanded the ball, drove at the defence and got in between the channels. Exceptional all-round.

It’ll probably be overshadowed by the result but thought Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain played absolutely brilliantly.
Shades of 17/18 — hope he can keep it up. pic.twitter.com/43p03W1ZqN

Let's just not forget how good Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been tonight. Maybe his best performance in a Liverpool shirt.
