Liverpool urged to re-sign Coutinho this summer

Liverpool have been told to bring Philippe Coutinho back to the club this summer.

The Brazilian exited the Reds back in January 2018, joining Barcelona in a big-money move.

Coutinho has struggled in Spain, however, and is currently on loan at Bayern Munich, where he has only managed 15 Bundesliga starts this season.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ The Debate (11/03/20) on Thursday, former striker Clinton Morrison backed Liverpool to re-sign the 27-year-old:

You know who I’d like them to sign, Liverpool fans might start shouting, I think Philippe Coutinho.

I think he would be brilliant. He’s in and out of the team at Bayern Munich, not really playing at Barcelona, I loved him at Liverpool.

I would be very surprised if Jurgen Klopp decided to bring Coutinho back to Liverpool this summer. The manager has rebuilt his side without the Brazilian and it is difficult to see where there would be room for his former player.

He doesn’t possess the pace to be a handy addition in wide attacking areas, while he also doesn’t have the physicality and selflessness of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum.

Coutinho also turns 28 this year and I don’t see why Klopp would take a punt on him at that age, considering he has been known to sign young players, with the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Fabinho in their early to mid 20s when they arrived.

All in all, it is a transfer that makes little sense, even though Coutinho still has undoubted quality.
