Liverpool suffer blow as doctor O’Driscoll stays at Arsenal

Arsenal’s head of medical services Gary O’Driscoll has turned down a move to Liverpool, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

O’Driscoll was expected to move to the Reds earlier in the year, replacing Andy Massey, who has taken up a job with FIFA.

He even handed in his resignation at Arsenal in January and the Gunners started looking for individuals to replace him, but the likes of Mikel Arteta and Edu have persuaded him to stay put in north London.

It leaves Liverpool with a vacancy in that role, at a time when the outbreak of illness is wreaking havoc across the country.

The report states that the Reds ‘have had to resume a process that was almost complete’, potentially causing frustration at the club.

Liverpool will carry on interviewing possible candidates, with another club doctor from a Premier League club believed to have turned down the job, too.

Academy doctor Jim Moxon has stepped into the role temporarily, and Philipp Jacobsen and Sarah Lindsay are also helping out.
