Jurgen Klopp has built a formidable team at Liverpool – one that won the Champions League last season and lie on the cusp of Premier League glory.

In goal, Alisson is arguably the best in the world in his position, while Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson make up a world-class defence.

Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum has been Klopp’s go-to midfield, while in the attack, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are Liverpool’s best attacking unit for decades.

We believe there are four Reds legends from the Premier League era who could improve the XI even more, however – do you agree?

Jamie Carragher

Jamie Carragher was a fantastic player for Liverpool over many years, performing heroically and proving to be one of Europe’s best centre-backs at his peak.

While he may not be as crisp on the ball as Gomez, or as fast, but he is still a superior all-round defender.

Carragher could be the perfect foil for Van Dijk, making Liverpool even harder to break down, giving the team added steel.

Xabi Alonso

Xabi Alonso remains one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever foreign imports, wowing supporters with his playmaking brilliance between 2004 and 2009.

The Spaniard may not be the most dynamic of midfielders, particularly given Klopp’s style of play, but he could still flourish in this side.

Sitting deep alongside Fabinho, Alonso could control games with his quality on the ball, perhaps even allowing the Brazilian to express himself a bit more going forward.

Steven Gerrard

Arguably the best player in the history of Liverpool Football Club, Steven Gerrard could obviously walk into this team.

The legendary former captain would be frightening supporting Salah, Mane and Firmino in attack, using his physicality and quality to unplayable effect.

Gerrard could improve any team – it’s actually a real shame he isn’t in his prime currently.

Luis Suarez

In my opinion, Luis Suarez is the most gifted footballer ever to represent Liverpool.

The Uruguayan produced regular genius during his three-and-a-half years at Anfield, especially in 2013/14, when he was beyond belief.

Firmino is a special player in his own right, but Suarez might pip him to a starting berth.

Liverpool’s best XI, with the four legends thrown in: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Carragher, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Alonso, Gerrard, Salah, Mane, Suarez.

Should Gerrard be Klopp's replacement when he leaves Liverpool?
