Liverpool have offered midfielder Pedro Chirivella a five-year contract extension, according to a report from the always reliable Neil Jones of Goal.
As it stands, the 22-year-old will be out of contract at the end of June, although the Reds and the Spaniard do have permission to extend that deal on a short-term basis until the end of the delayed season, whenever that date is.
Chirivella had been expected to leave the club this summer, with both Nantes and Rangers keen to sign him on a free transfer, but Liverpool have been, according to Jones, impressed with the midfielder, both in training and in the limited game time he’s had this season, hence why they’d like to keep him at the club.

In truth, I’m surprised Liverpool are looking to keep Chirivella around on such a long-term deal, given that he’s about to turn 23 and he’s very much been on the outer fringes of the first team.
However, Liverpool are almost certainly going to lose Adam Lallana in the summer and given the state of the world at the minute, it could be that the Reds feel that the best, and most financially prudent, move could be to keep Chirivella as Lallana’s replacement for at least a season and potentially longer if he impresses.
