Thiago Alcantara is ‘very likely’ to leave Bayern Munich and join Liverpool this summer, according to a report from Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Spanish international for a few weeks now, ever since it was revealed that Thiago has pulled out of contract talks with Bayern Munich.

The 29-year-old has told Bayern that he will not be extending his current deal, which expires next year, and as such, the Bundesliga champions are ready to cash in on him this summer.

The asking price for the midfielder is reportedly around the €30m mark, but Liverpool could face a battle to sign the midfielder as PSG have also declared an interest in him.

Following the departure of Adam Lallana to Brighton last week, there is a midfield vacancy in Jurgen Klopp’s squad and Thiago could be the man to fill it but he’ll want more game time than Lallana got last season.

Off the back of yet another Bundesliga win and with the Champions League quarter-finals on the horizon, Thiago, who has been capped 37 times by Spain, is likely to demand and be worthy of first-team action.

With youngsters such as Curtis Jones seemingly more ready than ever to step in and fill the void left by Lallana, it is unknown if the German manager will want to buy additional cover. However, should Klopp sanction the arrival of Thiago there is no doubt he will play a major role from the off next season.
