Hertha Berlin want to sign Liverpool’s Marko Grujic

Hertha Berlin are interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic on a permanent deal, according to a report from Paul Joyce of The Times.

The Serbian spent last season on loan with the Bundesliga side and he’s seemingly done enough to impress them as they’d now like to keep him on a permanent basis.

Joyce reports that Hertha are looking to spend around £13m on the midfielder but he says that The Reds are likely to ask for more than that, despite the fact that he’s hardly ever played in a red shirt.

Grujic signed for Liverpool in 2016 but four years later, at the age of 24, he’s still not come close to breaking into Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad.

Sending Grujic out on loan again doesn’t really make sense for Liverpool so if he’s no part of Klopp’s plans now, then a sale would be the best option.

Furthermore, the sale of Grujic could free up both the funds and space in the squad for Liverpool to go into the transfer market, perhaps to sign a midfielder like Thiago, who has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield.

£13m sounds like a good price for the Serbian but it looks like Liverpool and Michael Edwards will hold out for more and given their track record in terms of sales, you’d be foolish to back against them getting a more substantial fee for Grujic.
