Spanish journalist Albert Roge has reported, for Sport, that midfielder Gini Wijnaldum has agreed terms on a three-year contract with Barcelona.

A fee in the region of somewhere between £13million and £18m is thought to now be negotiated between the club, although Liverpool are set to make a final decision on the future of Wijnaldum.

With one year left on his deal, the 29-year old’s future remains in the balance and new Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman has reportedly expressed an interest in forging a reunion with his countryman.

The Reds have been trying to resolve contract issues with the Dutchman, although an agreement is yet to have been reached.

Now with Jurgen Klopp’s side seemingly edging closer towards a deal to bring Bayern Munich man Thiago to Anfield, a natural successor to Wijnaldum, the speculation surrounding the Dutch international’s immediate future has increased.

Whilst Liverpool seemingly continues to haggle over the fee to bring Thiago to the club, a place in the squad becoming available and some incoming money for the transfer of Wijnaldum might just push the deal over the line.

Wijnaldum has undoubtedly been a crucial member of the Reds successes in the last 18 months, however it seems as if both the club and the player may be ready to part ways, whether it be this summer or next.
