Liverpool are looking to sign Ousmane Dembele on a season-long loan, according to a report from Spanish outlet Sport.
With one former Barcelona star, Thiago Alcantara, set to arrive on Merseyside today to complete the formalities of his move to Anfield, it looks like the Reds may now be turning their attentions to bringing in another forward player to complement their fearsome trio of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
Watford’s Ismaila Sarr has been touted as one possible new addition to the Reds’ squad, but the Hornets’ asking price of around £35-£40m may put a spanner in the works regarding that deal.
Dembele, who was part of the Frence World Cup winning squad back in 2018, has had an indifferent time at Barcelona, mainly due to injuries and as such, the Catalan side may be willing to let him leave on loan if Liverpool pay a fee and subsidise his wages.
Jurgen Klopp apparently recommended Dembele to Borussia Dortmund back in 2016 and the German was interested in signing the winger for Liverpool before he made the move to Anfield too, so it’s clear that the Reds’ boss has been a fan of the forward for a long time.

A loan move for Dembele could be a wise move for the Reds to get a closer look at him for a sustained period of time before they look to potentially sign him permanently.
Furthermore, given the finances involved, getting in a World Cup and La Liga winner at a relatively low cost for a year is a financially prudent way of adding to Klopp’s squad without having to fork out a huge transfer fee.
