Liverpool’s summer spending could be completed

After the mayhem of the weekend where Liverpool announced the arrival of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich, quickly followed by Diogo Jota from Wolves, The Athletic report that the summer spending could now be finished at Anfield.

Having had a quiet window up until Friday with only the arrival of Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiakos to speak of, the Reds recruitment drive ignited as the two stars were unveiled over the weekend, with Thiago making his debut on Sunday.

However, despite being continuously linked with pursuing an additional centre-back in the wake of injuries to Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, it seems that the spending may be over for another window.

Schalke defender Ozan Kabak, 20, has been one name linked with a move to the Premier League champions, although following on from Fabinho’s out of position masterclass at centre-half against Chelsea, many may question the need for backup.

With the arrival of Thiago bolstering the midfield, the emergence of Billy Kouetio, and Virgil van Dijk’s usual partners only temporary absentees, Fabinho seems a more than capable emergency option for the heart of the defence.

It seems more likely now the departures will begin as Jurgen Klopp trims down his overflowing squad whilst recouping some of his summer expenditure.

Marko Grujic, Harry Wilson, Rhian Brewster, and perhaps Xherdan Shaqiri could all be set to leave the club over the coming weeks.
