Grujic hints that future lies away from Liverpool

Marko Grujic has talked up the idea of playing for Borussia Monchengladbach in the future, suggesting he feels he won’t be at Liverpool for too much longer.

The 24-year-old sealed a season-long loan move to Porto earlier in the week, due to a lack of opportunities for the Reds.

Speaking to Alo!, via Sport Witness, Grujic discussed the idea of linking up with Monchengladbach manager Marco Rose one day:

Borussia [Monchengladbach] was a realistic option. [Valentino] Lazaro and [Breel] Embolo praised their coach, [Marco] Rose, to me.

This attempt did not yield results, because they failed to sell the currently injured [Denis] Zakaria, but I believe that one day I will cooperate with Rose.

Realistically, I think it is difficult to see how Grujic is ever going to become a fixture in Liverpool’s midfield.

At 24, Jurgen Klopp would surely have decided he is part of his plans by now, much like Harry Wilson, who could join a Championship club on loan in the coming days.

Grujic has many top players to leapfrog in the midfield pecking order at Anfield, with Fabinho, Thiago, Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones all better options.

While the likes of Thiago, Henderson, Wijnaldum and Milner don’t necessarily represent the long-term future, Liverpool are in a situation where they need superior replacements for them than Grujic, while Fabinho, Keita and Jones look integral moving forward.

The Serb is now at an age where he needs to settle and find a permanent club – he is no longer a young prospect.
