Alexander-Arnold ruled out for four weeks with calf injury

Trent Alexander-Arnold will be out of action for four weeks with a calf injury, according to the Times‘ Paul Joyce on Twitter.

The 22-year-old picked up the issue in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad, being replaced by James Milner.

It means Alexander-Arnold is definitely out of the Reds’ Premier League clash with Leicester City at Anfield after the international break, as well as the meetings with Atalanta, Brighton, Ajax and Wolves, assuming he is out for as long as feared.

Neco Williams is an option to stand in for the right-back, while Milner and Fabinho could also slot in there.

This is a huge blow for Liverpool, considering Alexander-Arnold’s vast influence for the Reds.

His quality from out wide has brought an extra dimension to the Reds’ attacking play since cementing his place in the team, with the youngster registering 25 assists in the Premier League in the last two seasons.

The hope is that Liverpool can get by without Alexander-Arnold, as they have Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho and Thiago in recent weeks, but there is no denying that his absence is a major negative heading into the festive period.

It is another sign that injuries are going to rack up this season, such is the relentless nature of the schedule.
