After the furore surrounding the circumstances in which Liverpool forward Diogo Jota was injured, Reds fans were today handed a significant boost – including a personal message from the Portuguese forward.
The 24-year-old was injured during Liverpool’s final match of the Champions League group stage away to FC Midtjylland, with top spot in their group already confirmed before the game.
There was plenty of conjecture and questioning of Jurgen Klopp’s team selection before the forward’s setback was confirmed, and even more afterwards.
However, on the day when Klopp confirmed that Thiago Alcantara, James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri are all on the brink of a return to full training, Jota gave his own positive update to the club’s official website.
He said: ”I’m doing my best to be back as soon as possible. Things are going well but knee injuries are always complicated so we cannot rush things, but I am doing well and I will be back on the field as soon as possible like I say.”
Initially ruled out for six to eight weeks, the shorter part of that timescale would provide a timely boost for Klopp, who has suffered more than enough this season in terms of player absentees.
Here’s a pick of the reactions from the Anfield faithful to Jota’s encouraging update:
