Liverpool have made ‘concrete approach’ for right-back Nuno Mendes

Liverpool have made a ‘concrete approach’ for Sporting CP starlet Nuno Mendes, according to both Record and O Jogo [via Sport Witness].

The Reds have been linked with the left-back in the recent past, with the 18-year-old a highly-rated prospect, even being called a wonderkid before.

It is claimed that Liverpool have seen a €22million bid for Mendes rejected, with €45million the amount Sporting would have accepted at the time.

The Portuguese giants now want to seal a new contract for the youngster, however, putting a buyout clause of €70million in the deal.

This would clearly make life tougher for Liverpool, giving Sporting a potential upper hand in negotiations, ahead of a possible summer deal.

That being said, if the Reds believe Mendes is special enough to pay a huge sum for money for, Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards could go for it.

The pair don’t buy for the sake of it, but if a great player comes along that fits the Anfield model perfectly, they will do all they can to bring him in.

Liverpool look well-stock at left-back, though, with Andy Robertson arguably the best in the world in his position, and Kostas Tsimikas a solid backup who is still adjusting to life on Merseyside.
