Jamie Carragher has criticised the negative impact Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had on Liverpool’s performance against West Brom on Sunday.
The Reds could only draw 1-1 at home to the relegation-threatened Baggies, in what was a below par display by the champions.
Oxlade-Chamberlain was introduced as a second half substitute, but failed to prevent Liverpool dropping two points in the Premier League title race.
Someone who wasn’t impressed with the 27-year-old’s impact was Reds legend Carragher.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game [via HITC], the former centre-back bemoaned the manner in which Oxlade-Chamberlain “killed” too many attacks:
Liverpool have brought Oxlade-Chamberlain on to really drive them forward, but there is three or four times where he’s just killed the attack, or stopped it, and set up West Brom to counter attack really.

Carragher’s criticism is probably slightly harsh, with several starters for Liverpool more culpable in terms of their end product, whether it be Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson or Mohamed Salah.
That being said, Oxlade-Chamberlain was a little like a bull in a china shop at times, running down blind alleys and not playing with a huge amount of composure.
It is good to see the midfielder back in the fold, however, given his ability to bring drive and unpredictability in the middle of the park.
