Ex-Liverpool target Mario Gotze reveals the difference between Klopp and Guardiola

Mario Gotze has revealed the difference between Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

The German has played under both during respective spells at Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, winning countless trophies along the way.

Gotze, who famously scored the winning goal for Germany in the 2014 World Cup final against Argentina, was linked with Liverpool in the past, but a move never materialised.

Sadio Mane joined instead, however, which has proved to be the correct decision, given the Senegalese’s brilliance for the Reds.

Speaking to AD [via the Liverpool Echo], Gotze spoke about Klopp and Guardiola, revealing their difference in characters:

My father was happy for me, because he knows how important the coach is in the choice of a club.

He saw how Jurgen Klopp dealt with me as a teenage talent at Dortmund and how I later worked at Bayern Munich under Pep Guardiola.

I see [Klopp] as one of the most important people in my life. There is a relationship of trust between us.

With Guardiola, the relationship was more business-like.

It is an interesting insight into how Klopp and Guardiola differ, also highlighting what a great man manager the former is.

He is such a warm character, but he is also a master at getting the very most out of his players, making them feel wanted.

Gotze was an exciting target at the time, but sad as it is for him, history has shown that Klopp was right not to sign his former player.

He has been limited to just 43 Bundesliga starts since the beginning of the 2017/18 season, summing up his fitness issues and waning powers.
