Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has sent a message to the Anfield hierarchy regarding their January transfer plans during Sky Sports‘ coverage of the 1-0 defeat to Southampton last night.
Carragher, himself a former defender of prestige, said that Liverpool are unlikely to retain the Premier League title unless they bring in a centre-back this January.
Currently, all three senior central defenders are out injured for the champions, leading to Jurgen Klopp picking the usual midfield duo of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho at centre-back for Monday night’s defeat.
Both makeshift defenders did a sound job at the heart of the backline, but it is the impact of losing two of the more reliable midfielders from that area of the pitch which has caused much concern among the fan base.
Liverpool have been linked with a plethora of central defenders already this month, and Carragher pins the Reds’ title hopes solely on whether or not the club acts in this regard.
