Jurgen Klopp fails to rule Joel Matip out of Manchester United clash

Jurgen Klopp has failed to rule Joel Matip out of Liverpool ‘s Premier League meeting with Manchester United this weekend.

The Reds face their biggest game of the season on Sunday afternoon, as United make the trip to Anfield.

The Red Devils top the table by three points ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s men, making it something of a must-win encounter for the hosts.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday, Klopp confirmed that Matip could play, if he takes part in a few more training sessions:

He’s close. Does it make sense to throw him in? I don’t know, we have to look at him in training.

We have different solutions. We have to see, it’s not decided yet.

Matip continues to be a huge loss for Liverpool, so his potential absence leaves Klopp with a selection headache in defence.

If the Cameroonian misses out, it means he will either have to play Jordan Henderson alongside Fabinho, as was the case away to Southampton, or risk Nathaniel Phillips or Rhys Williams.

It is a fairly disastrous situation to be in, especially with United possessing a talented attack that features the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani.

Should Matip be available, however, it will immediately strengthen Liverpool greatly, allowing Henderson to play in midfield and shoring up the back-line.
