Amazing statistic sums up Liverpool’s recent drop-off and past dominance

One incredible statistic perfectly sums up how dominant Liverpool once were, and how their form has tailed off in recent times.

The Reds were beaten 1-0 at home to Burnley on Thursday night, as the 68-match unbeaten run ended in painful fashion.

Liverpool are now fourth in the Premier League and without a win in their last five games, whereas they were once unstoppable.

In fact, a stat that I researched and posted on Twitter shows that Jurgen Klopp’s side have actually dropped more points (three) than they did in almost an entire year between March 2019 and February 2020, when they won 35 and drew one of 36 games, spread across two separate seasons.

It is so easy to feel deeply frustrated with this Liverpool side – it is warranted, in fairness, considering how poor their recent form has been.

It should not be forgotten what a special outfit they are, however, during a period in which they have cruised to league title glory and also won the Champions League and Club World Cup.

This is simply a tough period that Liverpool are experiencing, due to injuries and bad individual and team form, but it won’t be too long until they find their groove again.

Klopp and his players have justified our faith in them and the “mentality monsters” won’t just go away meekly.
