Liverpool haven’t ruled out the possibility of signing Shkodran Mustafi this month, according to the Telegraph‘s Chris Bascombe.
The Reds find themselves in desperate need of a new centre-back before Monday’s transfer deadline, with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Fabinho all currently injured.
Mustafi has been deemed surplus to requirements at Arsenal, making him a possible candidate to join Liverpool and ease the crisis.
While Bascombe doesn’t mention a bid being made for the German, he states that he is someone who has not been ‘so instantly dismissed’ compared to other defenders.

Mustafi is far from the perfect centre-back, but frankly, Liverpool need anything they can get in the coming days.
For all his flaws, the 28-year-old has still been at a top club since 2016 and has also won 20 caps for Germany.
He is superior to either Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips, both of whom lack experience at the top level, and could at least do a job until the end of the season.
Mustafi has mistakes in him, much in the same way Dejan Lovren did at Liverpool, but signing him would be far better than signing nobody.
