Ferdinand believes Klopp’s mask has slipped due to lack of signings

Liverpool’s lack of summer transfer activity has seen Jurgen Klopp finally crack, according to Rio Ferdinand.

The Reds boss has cut an agitated figure for a number of weeks, with his side’s results seeing them sit fourth in the Premier League.

Klopp has become renowned for his easy-going nature, but that mask has slipped as Liverpool have struggled more.

Speaking on FIVE’s YouTube channel [via HITC], Ferdinand claimed the lack of signings have eventually led to the German becoming more angry:

He was doing it with a smile before and when you are winning it’s easy for that to be brushed off.

For some quarters they will say they don’t want to see it, but I like it. I want to see passion, he’s hurting. I like when I see a man hurting and he shows it, I love it.

It shows that he cares and he’s got a bit of passion about it and he cares.

The biggest thing for Liverpool where they messed up is that they didn’t invest. You’re on top man, Fergie has already shown you the way.

They didn’t invest man and I think Klopp will be fuming behind closed doors, he must be.

I think Klopp’s general mood is a combination of various things, although not being backed by owners FSG is a gripe he could arguably have.

That being said, Kostas Tsimikas, Thiago and Diogo Jota all came in last summer – Liverpool have just been hugely unfortunate with all three being injured for long periods.

The Reds’ form, the constant injuries and the lack of fans in grounds could all be playing a part in Klopp losing his spark recently, but he is just a manager going through a tough period.

He will be back on top form again soon – probably when results begin to improve and key men are fit again.
