Ismaila Sarr’s agent claims Liverpool switch was ‘sorted’ in January

Liverpool are said to have been on the brink of signing Watford winger Ismaila Sarr last month according to the player’s agent, as per a report from Pan African Football (via Sport Witness).

The Reds are believed to have sorted the fundamentals of the transfer before pulling out due to being unable to stump up the asking price of €40m (£35.1m)

Sarr, who is still at Watford and has enjoyed a mixed campaign in the Championship, is probably best remembered by Liverpool fans for tearing apart the then-champions-elect at Vicarage Road last February, inflicting a first league defeat of the season on Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Sarr’s agent Thierno Seydi revealed to Pan African Football (via Sport Witness): ”Everything was sorted, the monthly wages and the length of the deal. I’d even asked Sadio Mane to find him an apartment.

“But it in the end, the English club weren’t able to put the €40m on the table to finalise the affair.”

The 22-year-old, an international teammate of Mane for Senegal, was widely considered to be on the radar of Jurgen Klopp during the summer and was seemingly still in their plans up to recently, so this claim isn’t too big of a shock.

Whilst Sarr would have been a smart piece of business who would have provided adequate cover and competition to the wide men, the decision to plump for Diogo Jota last year has proven to be the correct one

Up until his two-month injury layoff, the Portuguese winger had scored nine goals in 17 appearances for the Reds including a majestic Champions League hat-trick against Atalanta.

If he can rediscover such form upon returning to action, Liverpool should manage just fine without Sarr.
