Many Liverpool fans have taken to social media to welcome Virgil van Dijk back to Merseyside as the injured Dutchman heads back to the Reds’ AXA training centre to continue his rehabilitation.
The 29-year-old had previously been recovering in Dubai after undergoing surgery to repair cruciate ligament damage he suffered against Everton four months ago.
However, the award-winning centre-back has headed back to Liverpool’s Kirkby home to continue his comeback, although it remains unlikely that he will feature again this season.
Having led the way in pursuit of Premier League title retention in the early weeks of the season, Van Dijk’s absence, compounded by further injuries, has seen Liverpool tumble down the table in drastic fashion.
This has left some Kopites searching for even the smallest iota of positivity ever since the Dutch defender trudged off at Goodison Park, and his return to the camp has offered a lift to many fans.
Here’s a pick of the reactions from Twitter, with many Reds “delighted” to see Van Dijk back among the squad in a move which some Kopites feel could “boost morale” within the camp…
