Diogo Jota returns to training in huge injury boost for Liverpool

Diogo Jota returned to full Liverpool training on Wednesday, The Athletic‘s James Pearce has confirmed.

The Portuguese has been missing since the start of December with a knee injury, but he finally looks like he is close to a return.

Jota trained alongside his teammates on Wednesday, as Jurgen Klopp’s side prepare for Sunday’s trip to Sheffield United.

Pearce states that the 24-year-old could be on the substitutes’ bench for that game, although a start looks out of the question.

This is an almighty boost for Liverpool, with Jota such a key performer before he got injured. He scored nine goals in his first 17 appearances and added a spark to the attack that has been lacking too often of late.

He will hopefully bring that positivity in the final third back with him when he returns, with some minutes at Sheffield United being a big positive.

Jota can help rescue Liverpool’s faltering season with his final-third quality, perhaps taking the struggling Roberto Firmino’s place in the team.
