Former Liverpool defender condemns European Super League proposal

Last night saw the announcement of the European Super League proposal.

The proposal, which involves 12 of Europes top clubs, including Liverpool, released a joint statement on the idea.

It is fair to say the reaction to the news not just from Liverpool fans, but football fans all over, is far from positive.

So much so, that even former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has voiced his thoughts on the proposal on Twitter…

It is fair to say that Lovren doesn’t seem too happy with the idea and it is understandable to see why.

The whole format of the competiton takes away the beauty of promotion and relegation.

This essentially goes against the core values of the sport and removes the whole point of the sport in the first place.

As Lovren states, these clubs are only looking towards the financial gain of the competition and not the bigger picture of the sport or of fans.

With a European Super League, the corinthian values of sport will be lost. Sadly, either side of the argument sees a billionaire win.

The Premier League was created for financial gain and the proposed European Super League is no different.

Sadly for loyal and hard working fans that support these 12 clubs, history is repeating itself once again.
