Jamie Carragher slams European Super League plan

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has slammed emerging plans for the perceived Premier League ‘big six’ to join a breakaway European Super League

The Reds, and in particular the ownership group, are at the forefront of the plans to see a midweek elite competition comprising of around 15 clubs to challenge the UEFA Champions League.

Carragher, like many pundits from the proposed participants before him, has voiced his concerns about the plans on Twitter

There is plenty left to unfold in this story as both UEFA and the respective domestic governing bodies have threatened to sanction the participants.

READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Should Liverpool, and the other five clubs from England join the breakaway competition, at the forgoing of the Premier League, fans and admirers alike would rightly be up in arms.

However, should an agreement be made that the club can continue to participate domestically, and the new format was simply to rival the Champions League – the tournament may take on a new perspective.

Whatever happens, this looks set to be a turbulent few weeks for the game we know and love.
