Sky Sports presenter Dave Jones has told Monday Night Football that Liverpool’s owners FSG face a ‘huge problem’ after James Milner spoke out against the proposed Super League.
Milner captained the Reds during a 1-1 draw against his former club Leeds United, before conducting an interview in the aftermath.
The 36-year-old gave his honest verdict on the plans involving the Anfield club, stating he hopes ‘it doesn’t happen’ – thoughts echoed across much of the footballing world.
Watched on by Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher and former Manchester United defender Gary Neville, Jones put forward his reaction to Milner’s comments.
Well, that is hugely significant. That’s the captain of Liverpool on the night, James Milner, coming out and you heard him say it ‘I don’t like it, and I don’t want it to happen’. That’s a Liverpool player speaking about the involvement of the Super League which his club is ready to dive into. That’s a huge problem that the Liverpool owners have got there, isn’t it?
Prior to the match Reds boss, Jurgen Klopp had confirmed neither he nor his players were aware of the breakaway plans and hadn’t been consulted on the decision.

On-field matters rather paled into insignificance last night, as the controversial plan took centre stage.
Unfortunately, this looks to be just the beginning of the issues surrounding the Super League, with leagues and competitions threatening to sanction clubs and individual players left right and centre.
What is for sure is that irreparable damage may have already been done and any U-turn would likely be taken with a huge pinch of salt.
