James Pearce says Liverpool must sign a new striker in the summer window

Liverpool’s form this season has been a world away from that of the previous few campaigns.

The Reds are currently sat in sixth place in the Premier League and four points off of the top four spots.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have a real challenge on their hands and have struggled to see out games recently.

The 1-1 draw against Newcastle at the weekend is a prime example of this with the Reds 1-0 up in the first three minutes.

One of the proposed solutions appears to be the club having to take a dip in the upcoming transfer window.

According to The Athletic’s James Pearce, Liverpool need to sign a new striker in the summer…

As Pearce says in his piece, the biggest problem for the Reds has been in the final third.

Although injuries had affected the squad at the start of the season, the second half has been more wasteful than anything.

Players such as Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino have been off the pace for some time now.

The duo have only 14 goals between them this season which is nowhere near top goalscorer Mohamed Salah.

Salah has been the main goalscorer for the club again this season but there is only so long where we can rely on him.

An out and out striker would provide a huge relief on our front line and would more than help in seeing out games.

Drawing games such as Newcastle and Leeds should realistically not have happened.

However, a new striker is completely dependant on the state of the market in the coming months.

Hopefully, there will be suitable options out there for the club to pursue.
