Liverpool Football Club has caused a lot of drama with the fan base over the last few weeks.
Ten days ago the club announced their plans to form a European Super League with 11 other clubs.
However, after backlash from fans all over the country the club distanced themselves from the project.
The clubs owner, John W Henry, even released an apology to the fan base for their actions over the plans.
Due to the reaction and the fall out, there has been discussions over whether supporters unions should have a bigger input with the way clubs are ran.
Liverpool’s supporters union, Spirit of Shankly, announced today that they will soon meet with the clubs CEO Billy Hogan…
It is great news for the fans of the club that their thoughts and feelings are starting to be heard.
There has been a growth in the conversation as to whether the Premier League should implement the Bundesliga’s 50+1 rule.
Bundesliga commentator Derek Rae helped provide some information on this rule on Twitter last week…
The ruling does not relate to ownership but instead the voting rights and the clubs board.
The idea is that clubs have a majority share of fans in regards to the clubs voting and decision making.
It is a fantastic idea that allows football clubs to still run effectively but with the input and concerns of the fan base.
Whether we see this come about in the English game is unknown.
One thing for sure is that Liverpool seem to be taking the concerns and backlash of the ESL announcement seriously.
