Former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch has taken to Twitter to back the induction of Steven Gerrard into the newly formed Premier League Hall of Fame.
Gerrard was announced today as the next member of the prestigious group consisting of former players to be inducted.
The Scouser joins Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer, Eric Cantona, Roy Keane, Dennis Bergkamp and Frank Lampard as those sworn in thus far.
Gerrard enjoyed a sublime career in the Premier League – making 504 appearances and scoring 120 goals from central midfield.
Despite interest from Chelsea in particular, the now Rangers boss spent his entire career in England with his boyhood Reds – a decision that may have led to criticism for not managing to lift the holy grail.
However, Crouch has taken it upon himself to stand up for his former teammate for club and country.

After making a Premier League debut in 1998 against Blackburn Rovers as a baby-faced 18-year-old replacing Vegard Heggem in the final minute at Anfield, Gerrard went on to win the UEFA Champions League as well as many other domestic trophies during a 17-year career on Merseyside.

With a remarkable club record and 114 England caps, anyone doubting the ex-Reds captain’s credentials is wildly off the mark.
Albeit often not playing in star-studded sides, Gerrard dragged Liverpool kicking and screaming to numerous cup successes, as well as to the very brink of Premier League glory on more than one occasion.
The fact Liverpool never managed to get over the line domestically during his playing career should be no slight on what was a fabulous footballer playing for the city in which he was born.
