Gary Lineker sends heartfelt message of support for Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold was dealt a crushing blow this week when a thigh injury ruled the 22-year-old out of the upcoming Euros.

Having been included in Gareth Southgate’s final squad on Tuesday, the defender pulled up in a friendly against Austria on Wednesday night and immediately looked to be in serious pain.

Despite walking off unaided, it was confirmed that Alexander-Arnold would need to pull out of the squad after being ruled out of action for four to six weeks.

Former England striker Gary Lineker took to Twitter to react to the news and had a compliment for the Reds’ star.

This comes just hours after the Scouser himself had promised to ‘Silence the doubters’ by shining at the tournament that begins next week.

Liverpool now only have Jordan Henderson remaining in the England squad – himself likely to be missing for the first game with fitness issues.

Whilst this is a major blow to Alexander-Arnold, from a selfish Liverpool perspective the prognosis actually isn’t too damaging.

Albeit Jurgen Klopp would prefer his star men not be injured at all, the fact this happened now and not mid-tournament means the marauding right-back is on track to return to pre-season with the Reds earlier than expected.

As for Linkeker’s praise – we don’t believe he needed to include the word ‘attacking’ in the tweet.
