FC Barcelona president makes bold European Super League claim towards Liverpool

Last season provided some surprising and interesting moments for Liverpool and the fans.

The Reds didn’t quite live up to expectation throughout the campaign, with them failing to retain their title.

As well as that, injuries plagued the squad at times and the Reds were looking to be in hot water in the league.

Luckily for the club, they managed to finish in the top four and secured Champions League for next season.

However, it almost culminated that Liverpool could play in another European competition, after the European Super League proposal.

Now, despite it clearly being the brainchild of Real Madrid’s Florentino Perez, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta felt differently.

Laporta has stated that Liverpool and Manchester United are the real founders of the European Super League…

It is an extremely bold statement to make about both clubs given Perez’s persistence to continue with the project.

Despite Liverpool and Manchester United’s involvement, it is clear they were not the real founders.

Both clubs were quick to distance themselves from the project after the backlash from the footballing world.

Liverpool are a world away from the values of the Super League and it would be a huge shock if they were involved in the founding process.

The Reds have taken steps to ensure these thing’s don’t repeat themselves, with a supporters board set to be introduced.

It seems a cheap shot from Laporta to try and deflect blame for the ESL given there late exclusion.

Themselves, Real, and Juventus took weeks to abandon the project, with Perez still trying to keep the plans alive.
