Virals: Liverpool receive approach from Benfica for Harry Wilson

Liverpool have reportedly had an initial approach for the services of winger Harry Wilson

The contact came from Portuguese Liga Nos side Benfica as the Reds look to sell on a number of their fringe squad players this summer.

However, the talks are believed to have broken down for now due to a €15million (£12.8million) asking price.

This is according to a report from The Athletic, as cited by James Pearce on Twitter.

Newly promoted Brentford and recently relegated West Brom are also credited with holding an interest in the Welshman, whilst Burnley saw a bid of £12million rejected last summer.

The 24-year-old spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan in the Championship at Cardiff City where the forward scored seven goals and contributed 12 assists in 37 appearances.

Capped on 28 occasions at senior level by Wales, the ace is currently preparing to face Denmark in the Round of 16 at Euro 2020 on Saturday.

Valued at £15.3million and under contract at Anfield until 2023 (Transfermarkt), Liverpool are right to hold out for the right price for their man on this one.

Whilst a permanent departure seems inevitable this summer after numerous loan spells and with Harvey Elliott likely to be ahead in the pecking order, the Reds need to bolster their own transfer budget accordingly.

Albeit perhaps minor details, transfer expert Michael Edwards has made a habit of extracting the best possible deal from a club point of view – something that will be put to the test on numerous occasions over the coming weeks.
