Last season saw a real breakout star for the Reds following a number of defensive injuries.
Liverpool struggled at times last season and found themselves without their three first-choice centre-backs.
This led to academy graduate Nathaniel Phillips getting his well-earned chance in the first team.
Luckily for the Reds, Phillips was like a duck to water and pulled off some incredible performances at times.
With that has now come plenty of interest in the defender, with a number of Premier League clubs enquiring.
According to Football Insider, via Anfield Watch, West Ham have opened preliminary talks with the Reds…
The report suggests that the Hammers are trying to strike a £15million deal with Liverpool to sign Phillips.
It would be a massive shame to see the 24-year-old leave after everything he did last season for the Reds.
His performances helped the club to a third-place finish despite being in 8th place with just ten games to go.
Given the issues that the club experienced in central defence last season, it is surprising to see him linked with an exit.
Not only that but for the club to be happy to see him go is an even more surprising turn of events.
With a current market value of £7.2m, a £15million deal is good business from the Reds in that perspective.
However, it is likely that many Liverpool fans would sooner keep Phillips than see him at another club.
