Mark Lawrenson predicts comfortable Liverpool success

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has predicted a comfortable victory for the Reds at Anfield this afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp’s side welcome a rejuvenated Crystal Palace under Patrick Viera to Merseyside on the back of an impressive victory last weekend.

Meanwhile, Klopp’s charges remained unbeaten domestically and picked up a win on the opening UEFA Champions League night against AC Milan in midweek.

Writing for his weekly prediction column on BBC Sport, Lawrenson backed the hosts to be too strong for the visiting Eagles.

Liverpool have had a good week so far with wins over Leeds and AC Milan and I can only see that run continuing here. Crystal Palace got a great result last week when they completely outplayed Tottenham, but I think they are going to be a little bit up and down for a while yet.

The 64-year-old nailed his colours to the mast with a 3-1 win whilst fellow predictors were slightly more reserved in their expectations.

On Friday, Klopp confirmed that Liverpool would be without the services of Roberto Firmino for the clash as the Brazilian continues to recover from a hamstring issue.

Making the L4 home a fortress once again with fans back in situ is an important part of any challenge the Reds can mount this season.

With the likes of Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota looking sharp, Klopp’s men will be confident of overpowering their visitors today.

One man who has been relatively wasteful thus far is Sadio Mane, missing a host of chances against Leeds United.

But, the Senegalese ace boasts a superb record when facing Palace – scoring 12 times in 14 outings – and will be hoping to continue that trend.
