Joe Gomez reveals ‘massive honour’ over captaining Liverpool last night

Last night saw Liverpool run out 3-0 winners in the EFL Cup against Norwich City at Carrow Road.

The Reds have now progressed to the fourth round of the competition, with some youngsters impressing.

Kaide Gordon and Tyler Morton both played extremely well given their young ages.

One new aspect of the game was seeing another man captain the side, with Jordan Henderson on the bench.

Joe Gomez took over the captaincy duties against the Canaries, and he settled into the role perfectly during the win.

He spoke about taking the captains armband after the game to the club’s official website, stating it was a “massive honour:…

As cited by Anfield Watch above, Gomez was clearly incredibly proud to be able to captain the side last night.

The Englishman joined the club from Charlton Athletic back in 2015 for just over £4million.

At the time Gomez was 18-years-old and has grown to become one of the countries best central defenders.

It has been great to see him grow as a player and become an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool team.

His captaining the side clearly showed how much he had developed since the German took over.

Having started out as a right-back to now becoming a centre-back good enough to play alongside Virgil van Dijk.

It has been an incredible journey for Gomez so far and last night clearly showed what we can expect in the future.
