Liverpool Set for USA Pre-Season Tour: ‘Hollywood’ Wrexham Clash Headlines 2026 Stateside Return

Liverpool are considering a pre-season tour of the USA this summer as the club looks to cash in on the nation’s World Cup fever.

Arne Slot’s reign as Liverpool boss began with a trip to America just two years ago, before the Reds took their preparations to South East Asia last year.

The Reds look set to jet off to America again this summer. The country is currently preparing to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside neighbours Canada and Mexico.

The news comes after a Q&A session with the Liverpool Echo’s Paul Gorst, who revealed further details on Liverpool’s plans.

“Opportunity to grow even more”

After being quizzed on Liverpool’s pre-season preparations, Gorst replied that whilst the club were being quite coy on the rumours, a return to the USA this summer seems likely.

As the USA prepares to host the World Cup for the first time since 1994, the continent is seen as the “ideal opportunity to grow even more”.

New York friendly with ‘Hollywood’ Wrexham in the works

A friendly against Wrexham is also being lined up, with New York being touted as a potential destination for the fixture.

Since being taken over by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in 2021, the Welsh side have undergone a meteoric rise and now play in the Championship.

With the Red Dragons in contention for promotion this season, the friendly could be a precursor to a first-ever top-flight clash between the two clubs.

Gorst suggested that Liverpool’s plans are all but confirmed the “plans are progressing at pace.”

Liverpool hoping to head to the States as a Champions League side

As fans await confirmation, Arne Slot will be hoping to make his second visit to the USA with Champions League football in the bag.

Liverpool face a tough trip to Forest in the Premier League. The hosts come into the game from an impressive 3-0 away win over Fenerbahce in the Europa League.

The result comes despite manager Sean Dyche being sacked last week, with incoming boss Vitor Pereira sparking fans’ fears over a “new manager bounce”.

Having made the long journey back from Turkey ahead of Sunday’s clash, a bit of jet lag from Forest will do wonders for Liverpool’s chances.
