“Steadfastly behind him” – David Ornstein drops huge update on Arne Slot’s Liverpool future

Journalist David Ornstein has dropped a big update on the future of Liverpool boss Arne Slot, which will be a reassuring development for the under-fire Dutchman.

Last season, as Slot lifted the Premier League title aloft, the Anfield masses must have thought they’d hit the immediate jackpot with their brand new manager, after so many were worried what the future would look like post-Jurgen Klopp.

Indeed, the Reds strolled to the title in some style, accumulating 87 points and 24 wins, as the likes of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal were left in their dust. Oh, how times have changed.

Now, the Merseyside giants are unconvincingly hunting down a spot in the Champions League, come the end of the gruelling Premier League campaign.

Coincidentally, Europe’s premier competition was the setting for Slot’s latest misstep in the Anfield dug-out, as a 1-0 defeat away at Galatasaray last time out was his 13th loss of the damaging season.

Unsurprisingly, there have been calls for his head, with Fabrizio Romano only adding more fuel to the fire by speculating that former Reds midfielder Xabi Alonso could find himself back in employment as a manager, as Slot’s replacement down the line.

Other journalists have come out with contradictory information; however, as David Ornstein has offered a soothing update, no doubt, for Slot, about his long-term future on Merseyside.

Ornstein’s update on Slot

While times have been tough as of late under the ex-PSV Eindhoven head coach, the 47-year-old does have some credit in his bank that should see him stay in the dug-out for the time being.

After all, he is a Premier League title winner, with spectacular 62 wins collected from a century of Liverpool games, a feat no other manager – apart from the great Kenny Dalgish has been able to replicate across the club’s distinguished history.

Amazingly, Klopp would only win 50 of his first 100 games in the dug-out, while Rafa Benitez – who spearheaded that famous Champions League final win over AC Milan – has a less with 54.

Liverpool do need to live in the moment, though, but for now, as per Ornstein’s update, he retains the full backing of the powers that be.

Ornstein said, when appearing on the Athletic’s podcast: “Liverpool, from what we hear, are steadfastly behind Arne Slot and he’s under contract until 2027 and they want him to be their coach. The hierarchy are determined that he is the man to get things right.

If they were looking at a recruitment process for coaches, he’s said to be the exact profile that they would be looking at and that there’s not people on the market that they think better suit what they’re looking for. That they’re happy with him.

I’m expecting this to go on and that the club get to the summer in whatever shape… I don’t think taking out the head coach is on Liverpool’s agenda at all…”

It remains to be seen whether the Liverpool hierarchy is still so behind their under-pressure head coach come the end of the season, with a failure to finish inside the top-four positions, surely grounds enough to axe him.

In stark contrast, he could go on to repair his broken reputation between now and May, as Slot tries to get his vocal dissenters back on side.
